Workshop Descriptions

You will have the option to attend two 90 minute workshops.

Workshops (Session 1) 9:15 – 10:45

Applying Design Thinking to Public Health Leadership
Is innovative thinking a skill that can be taught? We say it can be! Design Thinking teaches us how to approach complex problems with creative solutions. Join us to learn how to apply Design Thinking to public health and beyond.

Calling Racism Racism: A Lens for Leadership Practice at Harvard and Beyond
How can we lead conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion? This workshop will help participants develop skills to enable change in communities and organizations.

Leadership: Keeping it Authentic
This workshop will examine theories of authentic leadership, recently popularized by Harvard Business School Professor and former Medtronic CEO Bill George. Hands on exercises and subsequent group discussions will introduce participants to commonly accepted components of authentic leadership – self-awareness, internalized moral perspective, etc. – that participants can leverage to be more effective in both their personal and professional lives.

Navigating Conflict and Difficult Conversations
The framework of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is used to transform challenging conversations and conflict. By learning to hear our own needs and those of others, embedded in the stories we tell, NVC is a tool that creates a path for healing and reconciliation in it’s many diverse applications – personal and professional.

Workshops (Session 2) 11:00 – 12:30

What is Implementation Science? Applications for Public Health Practice
Introduction to Implementation Science as a framework and a set of tools to create organizational or practical change. Participants will learn the basics of Implementation Science and practice using the framework during this workshop.

The Power of Language
This workshop will provide a safe space for hands-on exploration about the topic of language in the context of power and privilege.

Who, What, Why? Self-awareness in Leadership
Lost at leadership sea? Are you ready to set sail? We’ll help you build a compass by exploring personal value, individual skills, and global needs to build a framework for ongoing self-awareness in leadership. Get ready for self reflection and activities to learn more about who you are and how you fit into the world.

Reframing Failure: Transforming Setbacks into Opportunities for Growth
The workshop focuses on changing mindsets around failure as an integral part of leadership. Participants will learn concrete strategies and tools to welcome failure for themselves and their teams as a component of growth and learning.
